The Japanese Association for Sport Management Overview

Japanese Association for Sport Management Conferenc

The Japanese Association for Sport Management (JASM) was established as an academic organization to control the academic studies of sport management. The characteristic is that this association will focus not only on various issues concerning education and research on sport management within the country, but will deploy various efforts to intend a collaboration with academic organizations overseas such as the Asian Association for Sport Management (AASM), the North American Sport Management Association (NASSM), the European Association for Sport Management (EASM), and the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ).

Demand for academic research concerning education and research on sport management is growing globally. Therefore, it has become an urgent task to organize a specialist group that can deal effectively with a broad perspective. The concept of this association is to aim for the development of sport management with the alignment and collaboration among the following parties: “Academic", “Student”, and “Business”. In other words, all “A to S”, “S to B” and “A to B” will benefit and contribute to the development of sport management in Japan. Furthermore, the association seeks to make a further leap in the sport management world by providing opportunities for promoting exchanges between “A to A”, “S to S” and “B to B” relationships. Japanese Association for Sport Management was designated as a cooperative academic research organization of the Science Council of Japan in 2010.

Currently, JASM operates as a representative organization of Asian Association for Sport Management (AASM). In addition, during the two years between 2018-2020, the association operated as the Head Office for AASM. Dr. Etsuko Ogasawara, who is also a member of the World Association for Sport Management (WASM) and international director of JASM, serves as the chairman of AASM.
